About the role

User researchers are at the heart of understanding people's needs, helping to inform design decisions with insight and empathy. They help the wider team develop a deep understanding of the people that use services and the organisations that deliver them.

Responsibilities

  • design, plan and carry out research activities for some of the most complex public policy challenges
  • manage research processes from recruiting participants, preparing discussion guides and moderating research sessions
  • work with multidisciplinary teams to analyse research data and synthesise clear and actionable finding
  • bring research to life through high-quality deliverables and help the team to communicate findings to a wider audience to support and drive decision making
  • apply your knowledge of and capability in using different research methods

Your experience and mindset

  • natural curiosity and empathy for people
  • knowledge and demonstrable experience of leading user research using different approaches and methods e.g. contextual interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, moderating group conversations, data analysis and usability testing
  • knowledge and demonstrable experience of techniques and approaches for the analysis of research data and synthesis of findings
  • able to apply detail, focus and rigour to all research activities
  • experience of working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
  • experience of collating and presenting clear research findings in a range of formats and contexts, working with senior stakeholders
  • experience of aligning research with organisational goals to support decision-making and action
  • able to manage competing priorities and comfortable delivering at pace
  • advocate for responsible research by considering ethical and accessibility factors throughout
  • previous experience of working with public sector, government and health teams, digital design and delivering better public services is desirable but not essential
